Tsuru no Ita Niwa (Kitamaebune Museum)

The writer Yoshie Hotta was born in a house that had once belonged to the shipping agency Tsuruya, which flourished during the Edo era (1603–1868); his book tells the story of Tsuruya’s downfall. A watchtower also appears within the story — this is the only watchtower from that time that still remains in Takaoka. This museum also features other precious materials from the time, such as wooden nameplates from ships owned by Tsuruya.☆Adults: 210 yen Elementary/Junior high school students: Free
