All Japan Chindon Contest
The origins of the competition go all the way back to 1955. In 1945 at the height of The Pacific War, The Great Toyama Air Raid occurred in which over 50,000 fire bombs were dropped on the city, causing catastrophic damage throughout.
The city was swiftly rebuilt from its former ashes and in 1955, now nearly completely reconstructed, the city wished to show to all how bright and peaceful it now was. Toyama City and The Toyama Chamber of Commerce & Industry proposed a “Chindon Contest”, and thus the unique event was born.
But what is “Chindon”? “Chindon” refers to a special type of advertising in which participants don eye catching clothes and let passersby know about new shops, sales, and so on, hitting taiko drums and playing trumpets as they go. It began as a practice in 1845 during the Edo period, a time in which there were no newspapers or radios.
The All Japan Chindon Contest is a unique competition between so-called “chindon men” who battle out their craft in what is now one of the cornerstones of Toyama’s spring traditions. It is the only contest of its kind in all Japan, and ends with parade of over 200 people on the final day!

Friday, April 4th 2025・The First Day

The Quietly Beautiful Chindon Sakura Night Parade
The “Chindon Men” will perform as they parade throughout the city.
・17:00 – 18:00 Around Toyama Station
・18:30 – 19:30 Around The Matsukawa River
・20:30 – 21:30 Around Sakuragicho (Postponed in case of rain)
Saturday, April 5th 2025・The Second Day
◆10:30 – 11:00 Opening Ceremony (Location: Grand Plaza)
◆11:00 – 11:45 Amateur Chindon Contest (Location: Toyama Prefectural Hall)
A contest held between amateur groups of “Chindon Men” from all around Japan.
◆13:30 – 17:00 All Japan Chindon Contest Qualifier (Location: Toyama Prefectural Hall)
28 professional Chindon teams will battle it out to try to qualify for the 8 spaces in the main event.
Sunday, April 6th 2025・The Third Day
◆ 10:15 – 13:00 All Japan Chindon Contest Main Event (Location: Toyama Prefectural Hall)
The 8 teams who made it through the qualifier now compete to be the champions in the main event.
◆ 14:30 – 15:30 The Great Chindon Parade (Location: Heiwa Street)
With the magnificent Tateyama Mountain Range behind them, pro and amateur Chindon teams

全日本チンドンコンクール
コンクールの始まりは1955年にさかのぼります。太平洋戦争のさなか、1945年に「富山大空襲」と呼ばれる50万発以上の焼夷弾の空襲により、市街地は壊滅状態となりました。
その後、廃墟からいち早く立ち上がり、市の復興がほぼ完成した1955年、富山市に明るさと平和感を与えようと、富山商工会議所や富山市の発案でチンドンコンクールというユニークなイベントが誕生しました。
チンドンは、目立つ衣装を着て、太鼓やラッパなどの楽器を鳴らしながら、商店の開店披露・売り出し広告などの街頭宣伝をするものであり、新聞やラジオのなかった1845年（江戸時代）に始まったとされています。
このイベントは、全国のプロのチンドンマンがその技とアイディアを競う全国唯一のコンクールであり、最終日には総勢200人以上による大パレードも行うなど、今では富山の春の風物詩となっています。コンクール会場やまちなかに鳴り響くチンドンの音色をお楽しみください。

2025年4月4日（金） 1日目

チンドンマンが演奏しながら練り歩きます。
・17:00 – 18:00 富山駅周辺
・18:30 – 19:30 松川周辺
・20:30 – 21:30 桜木町周辺（雨天中止）
2025年4月5日（土） 2日目
◆10:30 – 11:00 オープニングセレモニー（会場：グランドプラザ）
◆11:00 – 11:45 素人チンドンコンクール（会場：富山県民会館）
全国各地から集結したアマチュアチンドンマンのコンクールを行います。
◆13:30 – 17:00 全日本チンドンコンクール プロ予選（会場：富山県民会館）
プロチンドンマン２８チームから本戦に進む８チームを選出します。
2025年4月6日（日） 3日目
◆10:15－13:00 全日本チンドンコンクール プロ本戦（会場：富山県民会館）
予選で勝ち抜いた８チームから、優勝チームを決定します。
◆14:30－15:30 チンドン大パレード（場所：平和通り）
雄大な立山連峰をバックに、プロ・アマチュアチンドンマンなどの総勢200人以上の参加者が盛大なパレードを行います。
